

Dr. Suzanne Bates has an independent psychotherapy practice in Chapel Hill, NC. She formerly practiced in Ann Arbor, MI. She has worked in a variety of settings including inpatient hospital psychiatric units, residential treatment facilities, day hospital programs, a college counseling center, and outpatient hospital clinics.
She received her Doctorate and Masters degrees in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University Chicago, followed by three years of advanced training at the University of Michigan Medical Center Departments of Psychiatry and Family Practice. Dr. Bates studied mood disorders, innovative treatment for depression, and contributed to development of guidelines for detection and treatment of mental disorders in primary care. She also completed her undergraduate degree at U of M, Ann Arbor and is a Maize and Blue fan.
Suzanne lives in Chapel Hill, NC with her husband and has two adult children. She enjoys traveling, listening to podcasts, visiting art museums, swimming and kayaking, and exploring NYC. Dr. Bates serves the North Carolina Psychological Association in multiple roles and values her participation in ongoing learning.
